Here’s what you should need to know before you drive through the Monsoon.

Here’s what you should need to know before you drive through the Monsoon.

While monsoon is the choice of time for your long drives, it is also the time to be extra careful on roads with your car. Imagine ending up stranded on the road just because you didn’t know these simple things about driving in the monsoon. Here are 5 tips to make your monsoon drives ever safer.

1. Check the depth of the tyre grooves to assess tyre health before every long drive.

  • Good tyres are the key to a safe drive any day. During the monsoon, the ridges of your tyres help in maintaining tyre grip on the slippery roads. Check the depth of the tyre grooves using your finger and check the depth. If you feel the depth is not good enough, immediately get the opinion of your service advisor whether your car needs a tyre replacement or not. Don’t go on the roads with bald tyres for your own safety. A car could easily topple or skid away due to bald tyres.

2. Check the condition of brakes as soon as you start your vehicle.

  • Healthy brakes & brake-pads can push you out of danger any day. Make it a habit to check the brakes once as soon as you start your vehicle.  Also, remember that you have a hand brake in moments of peril. We tend to forget this miracle brake as we do not use it often except for parking.

3. Use the defogger when your car’s windshield gets foggy

  • Many people do not know the true purpose of the defogger, the button that is the least in the car. Windshield tends to get foggy during the monsoon due to the temperature difference on the outside & the inside. Using the defogger for just 30 secs will help you with clearing the windshield. Now, you needn’t wipe the windshield every 5 mins.

  • Also, the temperature of your car can be adjusted for higher temperature for that extra warmth on a chilly evening. Start getting more out of your dream car with these simple tips.

4. Do not try to start/stop the engine in flooded roads.

  • First of all, avoid driving into flooded areas. But, if you are already stuck in one, do not try to start or stop the engine as this might attract water inside the exhaust pipe. Stay put and ensure you have a good insure cover, just in case.

5. Last but not the least, always maintain good distance in the monsoon while
maintaining low speed than usual.

  • We all know our prowess in driving the car over the speed limits and yes, we agree we are all good at that. But, monsoons are the most unpredictable for anyone. While, we are the best at braking, the slippery road might disagree with us and in a slip second, our dream car will have a dent that cannot be removed easily.
