While your dream car can save you from the danger of COVID-19 by helping you avoid public transportation, a tad bit of extra care can save you from the clutches of community transmission. It’s a known fact that community transmission of CoViD-19 is on and we can do less about it, except for following some extra precautionary measures. Here are 5 tips a car owner can use to reduce the risk of contracting CoViD-19.
1. Always disinfect your hands before & after entering/exiting your car.
- Your hands are the primary touch-agents that can carry the virus all over. The surface of your car. Just incase you caught the virus on your hands at the supermarket or the office, disinfect your hands before & after entering/exiting your car. We don’t know who touched the handles inn your absence.
2. Sanitise the key fob at the beginning and ending of your day.
- The key fob is the main touchpoint to start your car and could be handled by multiple people. A quick sanitisation of your key fob can go a long way in saving you
3. Sanitise the door handles and steering.
- Many people do not know the true purpose of the defogger, the button that is the least in the car. Windshield tends to get foggy during the monsoon due to the temperature difference on the outside & the inside. Using the defogger for just 30 secs will help you with clearing the windshield. Now, you needn’t wipe the windshield every 5 mins.

4. Do not give your car for valet parking. Insist on self-parking
- We never know who could be an asymptomatic carrier. So, kindly avoid any risk in valet parking & insist on self-parking. A walk back is rewarding than it sounds!
- If at all you have to go for valet parking, ensure the valet has mask & gloves on, or provide him with the same at your cost. Maintain few pairs of gloves & masks in the car at all times.
5. Avoid putting parking tickets/challans/receipts just about anywhere in the car.
- Have a small bin that can hold all the receipts & papers that you might receive during your journey. Always use gloves before accessing these receipts and, if possible, dump them at the earliest.
